Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Help, I'm losing my confidence?

Question:I landed a large role in a play. I am one of the 12 people that made it into the play out of 80+ auditioners. At first, practices went well. Now I feel like I am doing horribly. All the other people in the play seem so much better than me, their acting seems so natural and I feel like my acting is so fake. The director still seems to like me and I get along really well with the cast. I feel really embarrassed and horrible after each practice because I feel like I am the worst actress and the director only cast me because I looked like the part. I just don't know what to do.

as both a director and an actor i know what you're going through and sooo many people feel the same way you do.

i think the hardest thing to do sometimes in theatre is to trust yourself. so, trust yourself and trust your director. you'll be great!!!

Stop over thinking this. You got a part over 70+ people...if you did not deserve to be there, then you would not be there. Now is not the time to doubt yourself. This is proven by the fact that no one else is doubting you. You deserve this and more good things...stop being so hard on yourself! You will feel worlds better after the first performance. Don't deprive yourself of all the excitement that goes with a play opening. Good Luck!

believe in yourself, everything will be ok!
you are the best one!

The fact that you made it in this select group speaks for itself. Don't sell yourself short. I'm sure the others have some of these feelings too even though you may not sense that fact. Don't focus on what got you there but instead work on your own acting role to improve your performance and I believe you will do just fine. Testing ones confidence is normal just don't let it get the best of you. Keep up your enthusiasm and stay relaxed and focused. I'm happy for you!

You lack confidence in yourself just like most of the other eleven. They don't show it and neither do you probably. Just believe in yourself. I believe in you. By the time all of you rehearse and rehearse and rehearse you will all wow e'm. I learned in three act plays when I was in High School that I could be the character that I set out to be and that was a great escape from the nerd that I was. We did have nerds even when I was in High School and that was back when Moses was still a baby.

just breathe...in ..........out ...........in..............out .............if your head isnt clear yet ,repeat...in your liesure time listen to nora jones and sara b. embrace the music and you will find the way grasshoper..icant talk anymore tonight but if you want to talk later we can.........................

Well, I love to act too, and the best advice I can give you is to be yourself as much as possible. Try looking over the script and just don't really think about your actions and movements while your reading it. You may start doing some hand motions without knowing, or start to have a different expression in your voice, or on your face.
Also, before or after the practices, talk to some of the cast and just get to know them. Then, you might feel a little more comfortable around them, I know that helped me.
I hope this helps! Good luck! (good job on the part!)

Do nothing. Humbleness is good in an actor. Makes you work harder. Im sure you are doing a fine job, and remember ... everyone, without exception, everyone loses their confidence now and end. If they tell you otherwise, they're lyin'.

If you got the part, then that means you had some sort of talent that other people did not have. Directors dont cast people only because they look like it. You must have something that you don't see. It is very hard to analyze yourself.
