If you take away all of the outer "trappings," if Romeo and Juliet were so vastly different from lovers today, we wuldn't still study it, would we. Capulet's Ball could just as easily be a Homecoming Dance and the Crips and the Bloods and the Sharks and the Jets are just modern versions of the Capulets guys and the Montague guys. Look at the re-make with DiCaprio and Danes -- drive-bys with guns labeled "dagger"

Social pressures are still available similar to the story of Romeo and Juliet. What if one family was a Liberal Democrat and the other family was Neo-Con. There would be the same problems with the young couples desire to be together while the families despised each other and would forbid their love.

First I'll say how they are alike, dislike then which in my opinion is better
Well these are the ways they are alike:

Romeo was in love with Rosaline until he took one look at her cousin and fell in love with her instead Ergo: Guys are jerks!

They both defied they parents to be with each other Ergo: Young lovers will rebel and do crazy things (talk about crazy things, how about killing themselves after a week of knowing each other)

Juliet was (not intentionally ) engaged to Paris, yet was planning to run off with Romeo Ergo: Not really Juliet's fault but still shows that there was cheating back then.

Dislike:
With Romeo and Juliet, it was love at first sight.

They got married within a week of knowing each other

They were willing and did sacrifice them selves's because they couldn't be with each other

*There are differences in the situations and settings eg. It was commen to marry during the teen ages*
