How do i find my vocal range?

Question:I have a deep voice (alto 2 in high school choir) and i am going to audition for a local musical. But i don't know how to find what my vocal range is, or what key i sing best in. Can anyone help me?

Sing your highest note, without straining, in a clear tone.

Do the same with your lowest note.

That is your range.

What key do you sing best in? That one is a toughie, needing trial and error. The key you sing best in is, well, the key you sing best in. You have to tune your ear, and your voice, into it.
When it feels comfortable, warm, relaxed and supple, and you can express emotion within the song (your "belt range"), you have found your key. F'rinstance, I love a Tenor D, but get rather screetchy above it, and lose any power below a Tenor low G.

My range is Lyric Baritone (not quite Tenor<no Stratosphere notes> and not quite Baritone< tone too thin>, and most assuredly not Bass<no rumbling>).

Until you know your voice, stick with Contralto (Alto II) as a designation in the SATB format. Not quite Alto, and not quite Tenor.

Singing on key can be taught. Finding YOUR key is up to you.

BTW: your range can always increase, either top or bottom. All it takes is a sweat-producing amount of work, over a long period of time.

If you were an alto in a choir, you're an alto in musical theatre. The notes are the same. "What key you sing best in," is kind of a false statement, because a key is relative to how a song is written. One song may be great for you in the key of F, for instance, but another song in F might not.

go to the piano and go down the scale until you have hit the lowes note you can sing. than go up the scale until you have reached the highest note you can sing. thats your vocal range.
