First of all I'd say don't be afraid to be you. If you're nervous, don't pretend you're not. If you start off by telling the group that this sort of thing makes you nervous, you'll get it out of the way right off. Make a joke. Get them to laugh. "You wanna know why you should come to Brazil? Because they've got the most beautiful women in the world there...look at me!!" You know what I mean?

The other thing I'd suggest is to just simply speak from your heart. If I were to meet you at the local grocery store and I noticed you had an accent and asked "where are you from?" and you said, "Brazil," I might then say, "Wow, that's really neat. Tell me about it. What's the weather like? Hot all the time? Are there places to swim? Night clubs? Do they sell peanut butter there? What kind of food do you eat? A lot of fish? Do you fish?....." There are infinite questions I could ask you about Brazil. But what makes your answers special and different from anyone else's is your particular love of your country and your particular experience. No one wants to hear a dry, boring lecture: "The current population of Brazil is....The main industries are...., etc." They want to share your enthusiasm. Tell them a story about an experience you had there. What makes a presentation interesting is giving personal examples So tell them what you love about your home country. If you do that, you'll do fine. And the more humor you can put in, the better!

And the way you calm yourself down is to go over the material as much as you can beforehand.

Have FUN with it. Else - what's the point, eh?

go over your presentation a few times and remember how you want to word everything. it will be easier if you are prepared and know what you are going to say. good luck!

Are any of your friends going to be at your presentation? Imagine that you are just talking to them. It will be less intimidating. You will be most nervous the first minute or so and then you will start to relax. Be confident in yourself. Make sure you know your information thoroughly and bring note cards or an outline so in case you blank out you can refer to them.

Good luck!

I have awful stage fright. I've been doing theater since I was five, and I still get nervous about being on stage, giving presentations, and even speaking in front of my church congregation. Honestly, I've never found any way to get over it. It's just one of those things I have to deal with. Usually, once I get started, the nerves fade, and my voice and hands stop shaking... Good luck!
