If you google "theatres 90028" you will see a large map w/lots of theatres in that area. Am assuming you live there so you will know that the bigger theatres in the listing, like the Pantages, Kodak, etc. are unlikely to be free. However, there are smaller live theatres listed who might be looking for volunteers/extra help. Check out the websites to get an idea of how large the seating capacity is. The smaller 99 seat or less theatres are the folks you want to call and ask. If you could get to Culver City "The Actor's Gang" theatre has a pay-what-you-can night. The really awesome thing about Actor's Gang AND the other smaller theatres is that you will be seeing some outstanding talent and also professional actors who you may recognize. Heard of "Dead Man Walking"? Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon? Actor's Gang is their theatre. Just one example of the calibre of talent in these smaller theatres.

Best wishes in your search!

Try volunteering or getting hired as an usher. You get to sit in the back of the theatre and watch the shows (or stand depending on seat availability). The only caveat is you generally have to wear a certain basic uniform (black pants and a white shirt or whatever their particular wants are) and if a patron walks in or out you may have to shine a flashlight to make sure they can see where they're going, etc. I'm sure you also have to help show people to their seats and all that jazz :-) I talked to a lady who ushers at the Pantages and she's been there a long time and loves it. She's gotten to see so many shows! I'd go down to the box office and ask about becoming an usher.

good luck!
