Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Stage mom?

Question:After watching that show I know my kids a star I begin to worry about the whole stage mom thing. My mom drove me to all my auditions but she never really forced me to do anything. Everything I did and Everything I accomplished was my own will. She enrolled me into a summer camp for acting which I didn't know about, but at that camp I had some of the best times in my life. I guess what i'm trying to ask is what makes a Mother a Stage Mom?

Usually, they are forcing their kids to do what they do, even if they don't want to, because they are living vicariously through them. So, basically, they think it is THEIR career instead of their kids'. Don't worry, your mom is DEFINITELY not a stage mom. She sounds exactly like mine.

The " Stage Parent Syndrome" is not really Caused by Pride as people think. Its mostly because they are living through you. Since they see you have an ability they do not,They will do for ( Or to) You what they wish they could do for themselves..
Example." A sports Father" a man who may have a medical problem will push his son into Football because he cannot do it. So he can live through his son.
OR
A "Stage Mother " who is tone deaf will put her child in a voice school and be backstage for every phase of a Production because they want to feel and be part of something they cannot. That's why many directors will BAR parents from many phases of a production.
