No, in fact I know lots of people that don't even live in the same state....

But you have to be willing to go to LA for auditions, a jobs, Ect....

They'd like if you lived there, but you don't have to....But they need to know that you, and most of all your parents/family is willing to go to LA often for auditions....

No but it should be close enough that you can get to their office.

If you're talking a LA or NY agent, then yes or at least close enough that you can get to auditions easily (as in, the next day) and travel there frequently. People in DC who have NY agents (NY is about a 3.5 hour drive) have gotten them by basically saying that their NY-based. Deceitful? Somewhat, but there are so many actors who actually live in NY who are looking for representation that agents don't want to bother with actors even a couple hours a way who might not be as "on call".

If you're talking smaller markets, then it doesn't matter as much. It's all relative to how much competition there is.
