Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Tips for this kind of audition?

Question:I have a theatre acting audition coming up and this is what I was told I have to do:

"Prepare a “Personal Presentation” in which you will DO a whole play of your choice in THREE MINUTES OR LESS. This is not to be a lecture based on the story of the play. You are expected to DO the whole play. You may choose any play from any period, any language, and genre (including musicals). No recorded sound, props, music, or costumes are permitted in your presentation."

I've never done anything like this, so naturally I'm a little terrified and don't know what to do... Does anyone have any recommendations of any plays I should use for this and /or how I should do it?
Thank you!

This is a pretty bizarre audition.

Select a play that you know really well. Look for the highlights of each important scene. Play the character (or multiple characters) in a few lines, then move to the next scene. Look for a variety of energy/style.

For example, if it were Romeo and Juliet, you might start with "Two households, both alike in dignity,
In fair Verona, where we lay our scene;"

Then you could do the moment when Romeo sees Juliet, playing the servant and Romeo: "What lady is that, which doth enrich the hand Of yonder knight?" "I know not, sir." "O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright! It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night Like a rich jewel in an Ethiope's ear."

Then a shortened balcony scene, a brief fight where Romeo kills Tybalt, etc. etc.

I wish you luck!

what are u auditioning for? is it a casting call?
