Auditioning for a musical?

Question:I'm auditioning for Beauty and the Beast at a community theatre. I can't do a pop song. my friend who has been doing things in that theatre for about 10 years now says i should do some sort of showtunes song or disney song. i went to a website where they help you try to find a good audition song. it was ok, but i didn't get much help. it did say that the medium range was mezzo or baritone so i clicked on that and i can hit all the notes in the songs it gave me in that area. this is my first time auditioning for a musical and i've never actually learned how to sing meaning that i don't know all of the vocabulary involved. it's just been my mom helping me out and she took quite a few years of lessons. she was in choirs and musicals and such. so i need to find a song that will impress the casters yet fit their standards. it's ok if there are a few high notes, but i can't go insanely high. any song suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

"Time Heals Everything," from Mack and Mable. (Jerry Hermon wrote it) Very easy and low and sweet. You could do 32 bars of "Journey to the past," from Anastasia. "Part of Your World," from Little mermaid. That would be great for you. Good luck. "If He Really Knew Me" is easy low...from "They're playing our song."

do beauty and the beast the song that says all that song as old as time junk. that would be good.

Find a musical you know and love and go from there. Also, it may be great for you to audition with a song from the movie. If your auditioning for a lead try the song that went, "theres something there that wasn't there before" if your not trying for a lead pick one of the other great songs in the movie.
