April 15, 1984, Tommy Cooper collapsed in front of millions of television viewers, midway through his act, on the popular ITV variety show, Live from Her Majesty's. Most of the audience thought it was part of his act until it became apparent that he was seriously ill. He was pronounced dead on arrival at nearby Charing Cross hospital.
Born in Caerphilly, Wales on March 19th 1921 Thomas Frederick Cooper whose birth was registered in Caerphilly, his death was registered in the Westminster area of London in April 1984. Tommy was a one off, and there has never been anyone since with as much talent as a magician, with commedy and catchphrases well remembered to this very day.
I believe that this is the way Tommy would have liked to go, that is on stage, doing the job he was happy doing and leaving his audience laughing ! even his wife gave the go ahead for the show to continue after the break, as the producers were prepared to cancell it as a mark of respect. His wife Dove as he called her said thats what Tommy would have wanted.
Tommy will always be affectionatelly remembered as a most talented funniest magician and entertainer.
