Question Home

Position:Home>Theater & Acting> I am going to see Rent on broadway, what do I wear? 10 points for best answer!!?

Question:RENT is something amazing. Only there do 1,232 people actually MOO at the stage. This is something really special. Lucky for you, you're seeing it before it leaves broadway. In this place, you'll find people wearing nice fancy dresses such, all the way down to the jeans and tourist tees they wore exploring New York all day. There are even the ocasional RENTheads who dress as the charecters then, during intermission change into their act two costumes. You can't go wrong with a cute top, nice clean jeans and a pair of flats. (you're a girl right? if not im totally sorry.) if you're a guy, respectable looking pants and a button down will be just fine.

good luck, and have the time of your life. you're about to embark on an amazing experience. let it all soak in, this could be the last time you ever see this phonomonan. (hah definetly just spelt that wrong, but you get the idea.)

have fun!

Why don't you Rent a tux?

People used to bring stuffed cows with them (for "Over the Moon"), not sure if they still do. Maybe you could dress like one of the characters - Mimi perhaps?

Ohh you are so lucky! I wish I could before they end.
Well just dress nice. Its not very formal but still look nice. :)
I know before people would dress like characters and have cows and such. Just dress how you like.

Are you going to a matinée or an evening performance? A weeknight or a weekend? At most Broadway shows you will see everything from jeans and t shirts to cocktail dresses and suits. I find that matinée and weeknights usually people are dressed a little more casually then weekends. It could just be the evening out mentality and people love an excuse to dress up. Also you will notice that people sitting in the orchestra often dress a bit nicer then the balcony sections. However, this being "Rent" you will find more people leaning towards casual then dressy. I have seen the show more times then I can count and always find the audiences at "Rent" to be a bit younger and a bit hipper then at shows that appeal to an older audience.

I would say dress comfortably ( its a long show) and wear something you would consider casual, dressy. I usually wear nice comfortable pants( I find pants more comfortable when sitting for long periods) a nice shirt and of course don't forget a sweater or light coat. The temperatures in all theatres greatly varies and you want to be prepared either way.

It is a wonderful show. Enjoy!

First of all, thats AMAZING that you get to see it!

Ok so what to wear
Well you can go many different ways
If you have balcony seats you can either wear as casual as Jeans a t-shirt and a sweater
or you can go as far as dressing up as one of the characters, maybe me Mimi or even Angel.

If you have orchestra seats. You should probably be formal. Maybe like the little black dress every girl has, or even nice slacks and a fancy shirt.
