Question:On general, when a big production company buys a screenplay from a writer how much do they usually get?

I do know that this number varies but please try to give me a good estimate. Also, is there any other benefits they get when the screenplay is bought? Like for example money of every DVD sold?

Thanks!

Payment for a script could be any amount, depending on how much the prod' co. wants it, the track record of the submitter, etc. Personally know of one case that paid only $50K for what turned into a blockbuster film with sequels.

Since the writers strike here in US, the rules about DVD royalties, etc. have probably changed.
