Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Friar Lawrence responsible for Romeo and Juliet's Death?

Question:In English, we were assigned to explain why Friar Lawrence is responsible for Romeo and Juliet's death. We need 3 arguments. I have gotten a few ideas, but I am having trouble, can anyone help me?

- He sold Juliet the potion
- He set up their marriage in the first place!

Please, any help would be greatly appreciated!

I agree, he wasn't in the least bit responsible. When stupid people do stupid things it usually turns out bad. there is however the fact that deceit isn't very Christian.

He wasn't responsible for their death non the less heres another one.

-He didn't make sure the messenger got to romeo on time
-He didn't get to the tomb before everyone else..

He didn't get the word to Romeo in time, and he didn't get to the tomb in time. He also ran away from the tomb, leaving Juliet alone with Romeo's body.

But the premise of the assignment sucks. That's not your fault, of course, but blaming Friar Lawrence for their deaths makes about as much sense as blaming Rosaline. After all, if she hadn't spurned Romeo, he never would have gone to the Capulet's ball and fallen in love with Juliet. They would have each married other people, and the entire tragedy would have been averted.
