I don't know the exact time of when Macbeth was set but Scotland was perpetually at war with England during that time period. King Edward I of England (r. 1272-1307) was known as the "Hammer of the Scots" because his spent a good part of his reign trying to conquer Scotland and bring it under English control, like he had previously done with Wales.
If Scotland was at war during Macbeth, more than likely it was a war with England.
