No, it should be fine. If you are just interested in theater, then you really only need acting experience. However, if you wish to be a triple threat and perform in musical theater, dance experience is 1/3 of the equasion. Getting as much dance, singing, and acting experience as you can will help you exceed in musical theater if that's what you aspire to do. Also, naturally having a good mind for dance steps and routines, as far as memorizing them goes, will really help. I know that even though I've only had a few years of dance experience, I can still memorize dance routines with gusto in only a few minutes. If you can pick up the steps quickly, you don't really have to worry about lessons. However, I encourage lessons and wish you the best in all of your theater/ musical theater endeavors!

Not really, talent agents look for exp in theatre and talent...

but if you want to become a dancer....

You dont need to be a dance to be an actor.

No of course its not!
I am an actress myself and trust me, I am NOT good at dancing. If you want to be an actor, you don't have to be a dancer!

I would agree that it's not a requirement. However, the more skills you have, the more kinds of roles you will be up for. At the very least, it would be helpful to take a "movement for actors" class even if musicals aren't your thing. Even straight plays sometimes might have a scene where a character dances. Movement skills can help you when developing a character. Just my 2 cents.

The same goes for singing, IMO.

No way, especially if you do straight plays rather than musicals. I too am an actor with very little dance experience and it hasn't hurt me yet!
