Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Last Performance - Very Sad!?

Question:Today we are having the last performance of our play that we have been working on it for several months and I am very sad. I even think I might cry tonight! This is the first play I have been involved with since I've moved away from college and I am going to miss the other actors very much. They were the first people I met when I moved here. We all would have never met outside of this play (we all range from ages 23 - 60) and we probably won't see each other after. It's all so sad! Everyone seems happy to be done, but I can't shake this gloom! I am the youngest of the cast and I really feel like they have taken care of me this year. :( Is it normal to have this reaction?

It is incredibly common to feel this let down after a show closes. It makes perfect sense. You are spending an immeasurable amount of time together working towards the same goal. Of course you will feel close and of course you will miss them. I am guessing even the people who seem happy to be done will feel a bit of let down as well. A lot of those people probably have kids, jobs, family, etc they have been ignoring a bit while doing the show and feel a sense of relief to be returning to their "normal" schedule. But that doesn't mean they will simply forget about you.

Be sure to exchange contact info with the people you feel closest to and maybe bring a notebook or something today that everybody could sign and write a little message in to you. And as Theatre Doc said....just look forward to the next show. If it is a community theatre you can count on the fact that a good portion of those people will return for the next show. So instead of feeling sad today feel excited about the next adventure you will all embark on together.

I always feel this when a show closes and within a week I just feel happy to have been a part of it and ready for the next one.

It is a normal reaction, but by all means, start looking forward to the next show. And do not let it affect your performance or life after this show.

Yes,this is a normal reaction, but you must look towards the next one. Don't give up, the 23 to 60 year olds need you. This is a normal reaction. I'm depressed for weeks after, but the BUZZ (only peolpe who've been there understand this) is what it's all about. GO FORWARD live life. Don't be SAD

yes

I know exactly how you feel!!! Last year in my school's musical, a bunch of my friends were graduating and I was so sad that I was never gonna see them again! Its ok if you want to cry, but don't let it effect your performance. Your audience doesn't want to see your sob story. Just cry backstage with everyone!!!

of course it is! I usually cry after a last performance, and then later at the party. When you are a cast you are like family! Just keep your head up and remember every moment of the experience. Try to keep in touch with the other members of the cast. After the musical that I am currently in is over I won't see the other cast members for about a whole year due to traveling and other expensiveness but I am making the most of what I have and this is a time I will remember for the rest of my life.
