Position:Home>Theater & Acting> How can I manage my time to be involved in theatre?

Question:I work and am in college, but I still want to audition for local theatre. I used to be in drama all four years of high school and had several leads and our troop won regionals one year (best year of high school - freshman yr!) How can i manage my time out so that I can actually audition for a play and, if I get the part, am able to attend rehearsals? Is there anyone else struggling to make it while still in school AND working??

I am a theater major, and an union stagehand. Really the trick to doing theater is evenings. Another thing you have to realize it that it is a hobby. A Very fun and rewarding one, but it is a hobby. The first thing I would do is see if your college has a theatre program, if it does you may be able to get Liberal education credits if you act in the local production. Also teachers give you a little (not a lot) more slack on missing classes for rehearsal. Depending on the show, you are looking at missing most of your evenings, and at least two weeks of no excuse theater takes first priority over everything else during the run of the show. I am currently making my living working in theater and going to school. So it can be done.

I'm a junior in high school and i love theater and one my teachers told me its all about prioritizing.
