Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Any advice for possible stage fright?

Question:I'm going to be in a play tomorrow and I tend to get stage fright. What can I do to help relax and keep from forgetting my lines? I know them pretty well and I can say them without looking at my sheet, its just when the pressure's on me, I tend to do alot worse. =P

it helps to really focus on the words and the acting. taking deep breaths and just going over things in your head calmly helps. don't look directly at the audience, that can get you scared. When you need to look outward (which is a lot of the time) look up, try to find a spot to focus on like an exit sign or something bright that you can see. don't think about the audience or what there thinking, focus on the things your doing well

Do you find acting is fun? If so, repeat this mantra over and over as often as you can: Acting is playing and playing is fun, whenever I act I am going to have fun.
Now, if you have any ability as an actor, you will just concentrate on being in the scene and not let your mind wander from paying attention to what is going on in the scene to make you say your lines and then you will say them with honesty and clarity. Stay in the moment, do not worry about what has happened or what is going to happen. If you are in character (listening to the scene and getting the stimuli and reacting to it, you will not have any stage fright, because you will not be thinking of being on stage, you will be the character in the scene.

Find a spot over the audience to look at. Pretend the audience is someone you are comfortable joking around with, and pay more attention to the scene than the audience.

When you're nervous, you're focusing lots and lots of energy on the performance. Take that energy and turn it into excitement. You're not nervous, you're just really excited. It sounds weird, but once you try it, it works!

Don't focus on the words, but the actions. Actions define characters.....You can't tell someone to fell a certain way, but you can tell them to do something....Focus on what you character is doing and the lines will come naturally.

Go with the flow, let your pyscalit as you chracter help you say ypur lines. rember to be clear ans use projection. if you mess up a line the audince won't know beacuse they have not read the script, just dont show that you have mess up. work any mistakes with in you charcters, nether come out of chracter untill your of stage and if theres a fouth wall don't brake it. hope this help.
and also have a good night sleep and take a herbal tea that that aims to relax.
