Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Is NYU right for me if I want to do tv/film Acting? (Plus other Acting Questions

Question:I really don't want to go there for theater. I also would like to double major in Journalism, so it needs to have a great program, also. This way if Acting does not work out, I have something to fall back on. Plus I can do something I love! I would go to UCLA, but they don't have a journalism program. I might want to go to Columbia to get a masters in journalism, and stay at NYU. I would like to work for The Rolling Stone mag... Berkeley could be a choice, but is not that close to L.A. I still have a couple years... I live north of Atlanta, and I have an local agent who has got me nothing. I haven't had a audition in a year. I am 14. I also have an agent in Nashville, but I never got a call. I was in a covention called AMTC, which I was offered to go to L.A for acting and NYC for print work. But I didn't go. I am still bugging my parents to go to L.A. But I have two other brothers, and my Mom does not want me to go. Money is also an issue. I would also like to go to NYC for a summer.

Keep doing theatre! Atlanta is a hoppin' town for theatre! Don't worry about film acting technique - if you can do it on stage, you can do it on film. The Alliance Theatre (won 2007 Tony for Best Regional Theatre) is very well known and respected. You might be able to get into Actor'sEquity doing a show there. Check out "Creative Loafing" for auditions. Film Agents are always looking around Atlanta for new talent.

It's obvious you have a great mind and lots of ambition. Your parents must be very proud of you. Since you're 14, and have so many ideas(!) and thoughts on where to study, can't help but believe you will find the right path to take over time.

Remarkable to see such drive in a guy your age!
BRAVO!

If you want to be a film actor, stay in Atlanta and work on that. If you study journalism, you will never become an actor as it is too hard to do compared with journalism.
