I am the Operations Manager for a Theatre Company that is Producing Little Shop this fall, and I know that Little Shop's rights are owned by Music Theatre International, and that the royalities are about $3750 for 12 performances, and that is in our Theatre that has a seating capacity of 100.

The other big cost, as we are finding is the plant, Audrey, and all the plants that you need for the show. There are several companies that rent them, and you can also get plans for building one from MTI - I think that we are renting ours from a company in Florida that built one last year, and now rents it out.

Hope that helps....Sorry that I do not know about the Alice stuff.

about 2million$?

Generally, with a musical you have to rent or buy scripts (more often rent), and rent the vocal books and music. On a bigger name show like Little Shop, you could expect to pay $1000 to $3000 for say, two performances in a decent sized theater. It depends on the capacity of the auditorium and ticket prices. Smaller space = lower royalty. And for Little Shop you would have to rent the plants, another few thousand including trucking. (Or build them.) You also have to pay a deposit insuring safe return of the rented materials.

I can't comment on Alice in Wonderland, because there are like, twenty versions of that. If you're talking about the non-musical LaGallienne version, probably $75 per performance and $8.50 per script.

You've gotten some great info and yes there are several versions of Alice... you need to visit MTIshows.com and Pioneerdrama.com and inquire personally so they can give you a direct quote for your specific situation. It will have to do with what type of theatre you will be performing in, what type of program (are you non-profit?), and how many performances... Really, it doesn't hurt to send them an inquiry and get hard numbers so you can plan your budget.

good luck!

Alice in wonderland is in Public Domian. Its Free. You just have to search for it.

To correct someone, the various plays written from the story of Alice in Wonderland are most certainly not in the public domain and may not be performed without paying royalties unless you find one that is specifically royalty free.
