I think it's real only because people make it real. If you "think" macbeth is curse on your show, then more than likely something curse like will occur. I don't necessarily believe it but as an actor myself, I would never say "macbeth" in a theater because of the superstituion and I think it's disrespectful because some people really believe in it.

Hmm, I never knew about this curse until I watched that Simpsons episode when the family go to England, and until now.

I'm going to research it, then edit my answer.

EDIT: Lol, I really really don't know. But it seems that a lot of bad things have happened to do with it.

Coincidence?

Not really...In the Begging of MacBeth you hear 3 knocks or 3 Bangs on the floor. This is to sybolise Father ,Son and Holy Ghost. This is because of all the supernatural things in the Play and the Superetitions of the People of the times.
Now a Days if somone says the Macbeth word in a PlayHouse ( Even if the Paly is not being Played there ) You are supposed to Run from the Building yelling or screaming till you get outside. Stomp 3 times and then you can return.
Its mostly a fun thing but some take it seriously. When I know somone takes it seriously I get a never Ending source of Amusment saying MacBeth to them. If mentioning MacBeth in a Playhouse you are supposed to say : That Scottish Play" instead.
I myself say MacBeth all the time in Playhouses and have never had a Bad thing happen and Never gotten a Bad review.

Hope this Helps.

Yes and no. More so I love the concept of it, and the pure unity of it. Like break a leg, but even stronger.

A single group of Macbeth actors and tech, can turn the curse into something truly believable.
