Position:Home>Theater & Acting> How do you make yourself cry for a skit? Any ideas?

Question:Sorry if this is merely a reiteration of previous answers, but here's what I do: don't just think of sad things or what being sad in general feels like. Think about what the character is going through; my voice teacher used to make me copy every single line from the song I would sing and interpret each and every one of them. Next, think of a similar situation that you have experienced. Perhaps your character has just been told that she will never become a fairy princess. Have you ever been rejected by anyone, be it friend, boy/girlfriend, director of a play, et cetera? How did that feel? Relive the experience! ;D That's just an example, but it can work for anything if you do it right. :^)
Hope I helped!

Pinch yourself?

Think of sad things

Well you can think of sad things but what I think is important is that with that memory you need to remember how you feel. You know that pain you get in your stomach when you are terribly sad? and the lump in your throat? That is how to get yourself to cry.

Really get into your character, and feel what sadness there is in the skit to overcome you. Loosen your expression and feel the emotions within your eyes and will take place naturally...

Stare into the lights that are shining on the stage or from the film crew lights. It automatically makes your eyes water.
