HELP! Very fast costume change in Seussical?

Question:I'm a dancer in the Overture, and we wear big brightly colored t-shirts, different colored Cat in the Hat hats, gloves, and black pants.

I have a very short amount of time to change into my bird girl costume - pink marilyn monroe dress, bright green fishnet tights, blue boa, different gloves, and of course, my mic. Any suggestions on how I can layer my costumes so it's easier for me to change?

I thought of putting my mic on during the Overture, but it nearly always falls off when I change out of my shirt into my dress. I also wear my tights under my pants, but I never make it in time for Oh The Thinks You Can Think.

Have somebody(or a couple people) waiting backstage right where you come off waiting with your costume to help you. Shuck off the costume that has to come off, and let your helpers, well, help. As long as you practice the change and everything is coordinated, you should be OK.

I've had to change so many times backstage. I think my quickest was about 30 seconds... Just make sure that you're wearing dance shorts and a good bra, or some kind of leotard underneath all your costumes, so nobody gets a peek at what they shouldn't be seeing.

I'd have some other actors or techies who aren't really busy help you. They'd be waiting for you when you got offstage, someone would have the dress prepared and another could help you out of your costume if you needed help. You should have your mic on during the Overture, because mics are just much easier to keep on for the whole show and that'll save you some time. It'll be easier to keep the mic on when someone is helping you into your costume. Best of luck with the quick change! I hope your show goes well!
