Position:Home>Theater & Acting> John Robert Powers....Scam?

Question:So i heard an ad about acting on the radio and called. I went to the audition yesterday, and the people at JRB told me I was great and that they loved my personality. They told me that the next step for me would be developing my abilities more deeply, and to call back tommorow at 12:00. So today i call and they tell me i made the call backs and that i need to take classes which are really expensive. My mom & I are thinking about taking the classes. From what I've heard, JRP is a scam...is it really?Should i take the classes? Also, they didnt guarantee anything, just classes and 2 or 3 auditions a month. And you have to pay now.So please help! I really want to become an actress!

I'll repeat my answer to another asker earlier in the week: Run away, run away fast. All you're going to get out of JRP is a false sense of hope and a lighter wallet.

They will not get you jobs.

You need to find a good arts school and take acting, dancing, and singing lessons. Even taking drama/acting at your local community college would be a better start. Get involved in community and regional productions to practice what you learn. Go to New York City, get a job, find a reputable agent, work your rear end off for years and maybe, just maybe, you'll make it.

Even if you don't, your chances were a lot better that way than going through this scam shop.

Good luck.

I've been offerred that before too. It's an acting/modeling agency. They are great if you want to spend the $2000 to be part of it. It's worth it, if you have a real want to model and act.
There's also a place on the net called www.onemodelplace.com. It's a place where you can freelance model and act. I'm a freelance model in the Sioux Falls, SD area. (Member ID 320608) They can offer promotional events which can get you into acting. The more jobs you work the closer you'll get to acting. But, like I said John Robert Powers is reliable, just expensive!
