Position:Home>Theater & Acting> I Want To be An Actor.HELP!!!?

Question:I live in Iowa, one of the worst, in my opinion, states for finding acting work. I went out for my first HS play and got a supporting character (I was the only freshman that went out,it was mostly seniors) We did a great job on the play (Sylvia) and now I want more. But there is a problem, the only theater near me almost NEVER has teen parts in their plays! So, I was wondering if there were any good acting camps/schools near me, like Chicago maybe, or if you have any tips for me?

Try getting an agent, before you do anything. Send your picture and resume to agents and agencies - getting roles in your high school play won't - and I'm sorry to be frank - get you a job. Only agents can do that, unless you're chosen from thousands at an open audition. You could try camps like Frenchwoods or Stagedoor Manor, but those might be a little far for you. I live in NY, so It's MUCH easier for me. Get headshots, and go from that. Plus, actors don't always play their own age - I've taken roles for 11 year olds, and I'm years older than that.
