Position:Home>Theater & Acting> What do you do if a lavalier mic is killed by sweat on the forehead and you need

Question:We are doing Beauty and the Beast and Gaston keeps sweating into his lavalier which is mounted on his head. This in turn kills it. I've heard this is temporary but so far he has killed 3 lavs in 2 days and we're running low on spares. Would rubbing alcohol help or just completely destroy it?

Spray him with antiperspirant, and then put the mic on at the last possible minute. (I'd not kidding.) We used to do it all the time. Each time he comes off, lift up the mic, wipe him off, and spray him again if need be.

I wonder where he is wearing the mic though? If he's wearing it on his forehead, I can't figure out how he is sweating into it.

could you please specify...what the HELL is a lavalier mic?

I don't know what can help, but I highly doubt rubbing alcohol will. Actually, it probably WOULD completely destroy it.

My best suggestion is to use powder to clog the pores. True, this may not be very beneficial to one's skin, but this will work temporarily. I also believe that there is a brand of moisturizer (the brand has escaped me) that solves this dilemma. Otherwise, go with a powder or something similar to clog up the pores. Another suggestions is to mount it above the skin by using some clear skin-save tape rolled up and mounting it underneath the mic. Final measures i suggest removing the mic altogether because the cost of fixing the mics is greater than an underheard supporting role. and if it isn't too late, try choreographing other micced people so that they he can be picked up by their mic.
