Position:Home>Theater & Acting> What jobs can you do if you major in theater?

Question:However, there are some excellent colleges that require "industry prep" and "acting as a business" courses as part of their programs. Some (not all) of the conservatories at NYU do this. ACT and Northwestern do also. In fact, in some of the Tisch colleges at NYU, master classes in "theatre as a business" are taught by Broadway casting directors and major working actors.

Not all schools dump you out on the street without teaching you the business. I would ask if the college you are interested in provides courses in industry prep or not.

Or you could just work at Starbucks.

"You want fries with that?"

Majoring in theatre doe not teach you to get a job, much less hold one. If you take teacher training as well as major in theater there may be some places that would hire you to teach high school.

In reality all most employers care about is do you have a college degree; it doesn't matter what. The experience of acting in college can only help you but if you decide it's not for you then you'll can easily find a job else where.
