Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Getting headshots done tomorrow- need advice!!!?

Question:I scheduled to get professionally-done headshots tomorrow. The resume I plan to put them in includes my experience in stage acting, video editing, camera operation, light and sound tech, and news anchoring for my old highschool's campus new group.

I have several questions:

--- I have been told by several people that I have a good radio voice, how should I include that in the resume, if at all?

--- I plan to wear a solid polo shirt, but what would be best to wear?
The shots are going to be color, and am purchasing the digital format as well as the 4x6 prints.
--- Would I be infringing on their copyright by converting the color pics to black and white?

--- Also, what facial expressions would be best? There will be 6-8 shots taken.

I would prefer that answers be from people experienced in the industry.
Thank you for any advice!

About the pictures- I would take several shirts to allow the photographer some choices. Some may photograph better than others.

If the photographer is using digital , he/she can convert some of the pics to b&w for you during the shoot or afterward with ease.

A pro will help you with positioning and facial expressions. Just make sure you are "thinking" about something when looking into the lens. Dead eyes and frozen smiles are boring.

-About the resume: It sounds like you may be including items which do not relate to acting. You should look up some actor resumes online to follow the accepted format- it's pretty stringent. Any random skills would go under a category SPECIAL SKILLS.

A separate resume can be made for your other professions.

Have fun.

Wait until you see them- they may turn out better than you expect. Unless you had an agreement beforehand to have a do-over or partial refund if dissatisfied, you'll have to see how things pan out. You can ask but he won't be obligated. Good luck. Report It

  • I am a photographer and normally IF I sale or release the digital negatives, then I have released the copyright to you. I wouldn't care what you did with them. HOWEVER... if someone asked who took your pic and it was the b&w that you turned yourself.. I would expect you to answer honestly and say.. so and so took my picture but I bought the digital negative and turned it B&W myself. That way if you did a horrendous job, I wouldn't have to take the fall for it.

Everyone loves a smile so you should show off those pearly whites, alright? Make them see that handsome looking man that you know you are.

A polo shirt is really nice so I would go with that too. I hope this helps.

that is actually pretty funny about the "gangsta look" but i think if you wanted to achieve it you could. all it would require is you looking extremely angry without going overboard. seriously. but as far as looks when i did my headshots they told me (and the photographer even did this for me the day off) to look take out and bring pictures from magazines to kind of see where my personality would fall in.

so be sure to have at least one shot that shows your personality. i smile and laugh all the time so one of my shots consisted of me straight on smiling and i think my personality shows in it, but i also have some with a serious face some with a slight smirk. if you have a good photographer they may even help you tons like mine did.

but what casting directors and agencies are looing for is someone who's picture pops out at them. so be sure to have one that shows who you are

as far as copyright laws etc i don't know

I agree - bring several shirts. I don't like the idea of a polo shirt. My bias, but that screams "uncool" at me. If the headshots are being done by a "professional" then the photographer will know the expressions to ask you to put on. It's surprising they are taking only 6-8 shots... usually it's 30, 50, 60+, and they and you choose together from the lot for what to reproduce. Maybe this is not such a professional headshot photographer as you think? BTW I like your faked up headshot :)

And on the b/w, I like the photographer respondent's answer here, but what if you asked the photographer tomorrow what she/he would charge to convert one of the images to b/w? They would have the software and the eye to get the color balance right.

If you send a color photo to abcpictures.com for your headshots they do a great job converting to b/w, in my experience. And they are a good price.
