Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Okay.. here's a question..?

Question:so... I have a passion for acting, but i'm realistic. Do you think that it is a good plan to get a 3 or 4 year science degree from university first, and then try the whole acting scene, but still have the science degree to fall back on if the acting doesn't fall through? Because I mean I know it's hard to do well in acting in this world, but I just have such a passion, and want to be involved in something like that. I want to do something different with my life.. and hey, they all started somewhere right?? but seriously.. do you think that's a good idea.. to get that science degree first?

Some people on here will tell you no if you want to be an actor just go for it and skip school but having been in every aspect of this business and seen a few people make it and far more stumble away and move on to the career that will guarantee them a paycheck I say go to school!

I agree that following your passion is essential so don't study science if you don't like it. You could also get your degree in theatre. Honestly a bachelors degree will only get you so far in itself. Yes it will open doors, get you a higher paycheck, etc. but the main thing it will do is prep you for getting your masters degree which is where what you study really matters.
If you truly want to have a career in science you will need a more advanced degree then a bachelors. But no matter what subject you major in having your degree will get you farther. The simple act of educating yourself prepares you for the world as a whole.

Of course there are many success stories of people who succeeded without an education but this business as you know is hard and competitive. Why not give yourself the edge as well as preparing yourself no matter how your story turns out.
