Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Drama is a totally new world for me?

Question:Ok, so i just recently joined the world of drama. Now, i did my ms play, and then got selected for the hs play. (opened a new door of opportunity =])

Now, i used to think ms drama was tough, but now hs drama is overwhelming. The dance steps are so complicated and im so new to this. Like, really! But im really into drama, and i have a nice voice, although i have absoulutely 0% knowledge on how to read music.

Now my question is, if I keep trying, and start to do summer hs shows (which you have to pay like 300$ for, it's called Lynn Clark), do you think that i could be a drama %n. And by that i mean, do you think i could get leads and succeed?

Feedback?

First off - congratulations on being cast in 2 shows! Great start! Might want to ask yourself how long it took you to learn to ride a bike, how many times you tipped over or had to re-do something, etc. It's like that in theatre. Don't beat yourself up about not knowing how to do the dance steps perfectly the first time or even the 10th - as long as you are giving 100%. Making mistakes is part of the process - and by making those mistakes, which EVERYONE makes, you also learn a great deal about how much you really want this. A performer has to develop a pretty tough skin. Don't be afraid of trying - it takes guts to stand on a stage and use the "muscles" an actor needs. It ain't for Sissies! You are already finding that out and should pat yourself on the back for doing what you're doing right now! At the end of the rehearsal process, after the performances are over, I think you will be better able to answer your own question about whether or not you have what it takes. Like I said before, it's a great beginning! Bravo!

As for the $300 summer show, hmmmmm . . . don't know who Lynn Clark is - if ya get what I'm saying. Really - if they want you to do the show then you should not have to pay anything to be in it. Try finding a local community theatre to work with if you want to keep going during the summer months. There are many that do student shows just for the summer. Check Craigs List and your local newspaper entertainment section for auditions or look in the Yellowpages under "Theatre Live" and call 'em up!

drama is like funny.

Like anything else - sports, art, cookling, etc. - the more your practice the better you will be. If you set your mind to get leads and succeed, you will. Work hard, read all you can, practice, seek feedback, etc. and you should be well on your way. Good luck!
