Depends on type. If you're talking about a model type, then move to LA. Otherwise, there is tons of film and television in New York. And of course, New York totally kills LA when it comes to the amount of stage work. Even for aspiring actors, NYC is great. I think nearly every single actor I know has been an extra or featured role on one-or-another version of Law and Order, filmed in New York. And New York has much better schools.

Do some auditions in NY, which are usually listed in the newspaper or posted around town. If nothing happens after a few months, then haul on over to LA and see if things change.

Hmmm, I would suggest her going to LA but with someone she knows, like a mom or sister. If not let her stay in NY.

i believe she should stay in NY.
if she were to get a job that requires her to be in LA than yes, she should move there.
but why move there NOW if you dont know anyone? LA is so full of people, i mean, so is NY but at least she has family there.
i say she should stay in NY until she knows what shes gonna do in LA. because theres nothing worse than moving to a place, without knowing why, and then later regret it and no one is there to support/confort you.

tell her to wait a year. if she still wants to leave, than, by all means, wish her the best of luck in acting and life!

I think she should go for a reality show cuz apparently its working for many people.

stay in NY then go to LA

There is a lot of television produced in NY. And as a result of so many actors living in NY, many/most big "Hollywood" productions (and larger indies) also are going to broadcast LA auditions through NY agents, as well. Speaking of agents, the actress could live in NY, and have agents on both coasts, or better yet, try to sign with a strong agent that has effective offices on both coasts.

even though new york director is prejudiced in favor of nyc, I have to agree that you should stay in ny. LA is wall to wall unemployed actors. Stay in NY until a job requires you to go to LA. Do not set a time limit for success, it may take your whole lifetime (see the film Career with Anthony Franciosa).
