Yes. Do lots of singing auditions. There's no other cure.

And here is the secret:

Nobody in that audition room is going to kill you. They're not packing heat or a machete, or whatever. When your audition is lousy, they're simply going to thank you and go on to the next one.

In fact, most of the time the folks you're auditioning for are rooting for you. They want you to succeed. They are just praying that each person who comes through that door is the next *ONE* they've been searching for for this or that part.

When you figure out that they're not really going to hurt you, that you'll live through it, it will get a lot easier. And you'll find in life that doing those things that you are afraid of is so much more rewarding than doing the things that make you feel safe.

Go out there and audition. You'll get stronger every time.

Good luck!

Try singing a lot in front of family and friends who you feel more comfortable around. Gradually have people you're less familiar with integrate with the group of people you do know until you're more at ease with people you don't know.

first try to sing in front of yourself in the mirror.....focus on yourself, telling yourself that you can do it, and becoming motivated.... then move on to singing in front of close friends, or family...(only one of them though) then progress on to bigger crowds of people that you know...reminding yourself of what you have motivated yourself to do before...always keep positive, reminding that you CAN DO IT! also tell yourself that you're doing this for a reason. no one is making you do this......only you can make the decision to get in front of ppl and sing....one of your worst fears.... and when it's all over you really have accomplished something amazing!

Do this...

No matter what you do to prepare, all you have to do before hand is run out on stage and use your outside voice.

This will infuse confidence and you'll perform beautifully with lots of energy. That will get you the roll easy. Once you see how easy this is, you'll nail it every time, and you'll never be nervous again

Reading your question, I realized that, after over thirty years of singing in front of audiences, I finally don't get nervous! Okay, maybe a little sometimes. But there is a trick I used to use: sing to one person only. Make that one person your audience and ignore everyone else. You don't even have to look at the person, just focus mentally on them. Now that I think about it, you could picture someone not even there! The whole idea is to replace the audience that is overwhelming you with a less threatening audience. Hope this helps. Good luck, and don't ever give up!

Two things to try: first evaluate your committment to singing. If you don't like it, don't do it. IF you like it, then enjoy doing it, it is after all another way of acting. Make it fun . Second, find a hypnotist.
