Please don't let anyone discourage you.

I'm in Lafayette starting out as an actress and I know of two agencies in town. Plus, just because you live in a small town doesn't mean you can't follow your dream. There is even a theater that offers classes, but unfortunately I can't remember the name. A lot of famous actors/actresses started in small places, but what made the difference for them was deciding if acting is what they wanted and made the necessary sacrifices to continue doing what they love. Your goal in acting should not be fame.

If your parents are willing to support your dreams check out craigslist.org click louisiana, then search for tv/films, and talent in new orleans, lafayette, Shreveport and baton rouge. If you see something you're interested in maybe you can road trip to New Orleans or those other places for casting calls. This is probably one of the few places you can find this kind of helpful resources for free. You may want to look into getting headshots and putting together a beginning resume' if you haven't already so you can send them in for auditions and for possible agents. Check out Back In Time Photography about headshots, if you're serious.

Also, keep in mind that several actors started off as commericial print models so don't rule out print modeling as a starting place.

and some of the other posts are right. get experience!!! do school plays, find the theaters that offer courses, do local jobs first. But take the initiative to find your own resources. UL Lafayette sometimes offers summer opportunities for HS students to perform with their students so you could look into that but at the same time look for roles as extras/background players. You sometimes get paid (depending on what is is and who it's with) but it's definitely good experience to interact with veterans who understand the industry a little more and it requires no prior experience but you certainly gain it.

I'm just talking a lot now, but I understand what you're going through. It's hard to just sit around and wait for your chance to get into the business, you physically have to get yourself there.
hope i helped

Dont think so.

You're not going to start a tv/film career in Lafayette, LA because there just isn't enough work there. You might be able to get some local commercials, but that's about it.
So, why not use the time to train and get experience?

ALso, contact the theatre department at the Univ of LA for suggestions on other local theatres and classes- it also appears that auditions for the productions at the Univ are also open to members of the community, not just students, so you can take advantage of that.

How far is Lafayette from Shreveport or Baton Rouge or New Orleans where they have agents? If you are more than a hour or so away, forget doing anything now except getting all the experience in school plays and speech events that you can, then when you graduate HS you can move to where there is some real action, like Dallas, for example and get started as an actor.
