Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Uptempo song for musical audition??

Question:I have an audition coming up for Urinetown and I need to audition with an uptempo showtune. I usually sing ballads at my auditions since that is what my voice is more suited for. Anyone have any good suggestions? I'm a soprano. 1st soprano to be more specific. Thank you!!

Sorry to contradict The Preformer, but pop songs are not recommended for Musical theatre auditions unless they actually ask you to sing one. That is a BIG MISTAKE

A good choice would be "I Believe in Love" from Hair it has that gospel-ish sound some of the songs in urinetown have and it is upbeat but it has a ballad sound.

If want the little girl who's name is slipping my mind right now sing something precoscious "My new Philosophy" from you're a good man Charlie Brown could work well or even "You're never fully dressed without a smile" from Annie!

GOOD LUCK!

( You may have seen me on TV but I cannot reveal my ID, I love emails though )

Try 'Hey There Deliela'. My friend is just like you and she did that one and got a lead role! Its also a popular song so it will be sure to be regognized. Good Luck and FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS!

a good book to sing from is "the first book of soprano solos" compiled by Joan Frey Boytim. Love has eyes by Sir Henry R. Bishop has a wide range and is fun to sing. A hard one is the crucifizion but it's amazing. if you are just singing a regular song to try out?.... i really would have no clue. i usually try out with music that a paino plays to when i sing. good luck on your try out!
