Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Are you going to AMDA?

Question:I just got accepted to the BFA program at AMDA (The American Musical and Dramatic Academy) in Los Angeles, and I live in Texas, so I'm not going to be able to visit the campus, well, till i actually move over there. So i was wondering if anyone attending that school, could tell me how it was. The work pace, and all that good stuff. I'd really appreciate it. Feel free to tell me about anything about the school. =]]]

I graduated from there and attended both NY and LA.

The strong points are:

* the film classes- you get to work on original projects

*the speech classes, excellent work on accent elimination and learning other dialects.

It is a pretty nice little campus- a cafe, student housing and classrooms are all right there.

The downside is the lack of clear communication from the office to the students at times. You really have to be on top of everything, and make sure you have the information you need.
They can be disorganized. I hope that has improved.

You will get out of the experience what you put into it.

I would not go there. I recently talked to a student there who was very dissatisfied with them. There are better ways of becoming an actress than going to an expensive academy that is living on its past glory. UNLESS your goal is to be in musical comedy as opposed to movies, tv and stage. That is a different story, but the young lady I mentioned above was studying musical comedy there. So -- read my profile and write to me at my aol address where I give free advice to aspiring actors.
