Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Who is the most successful producer in NYC to mount a new, off broadway musical?

Question:Most off-Broadway (and even Broadway) shows are not produced by individual producers anymore. Most new shows start in smaller non-profits or regional theaters other places in the country, and are later picked up by New York producers. A show normally scores a big success elsewhere and is noticed, then is optioned by a larger non-profit, and is sometimes picked up by a producer. Avenue Q is a good example. It started off in a tiny non-profit workshop, was produced at the small Vineyard theatre, then was produced on Broadway.

Also, many of the small New York shows are written by members of the prestigious BMI workshop and other training programs for Musical Theatre writers.
