Position:Home>Theater & Acting> What to acting/talent agents do?

Question:What exactly do they do? My mom said that she would get me one over the summer or in the fall. We don't have any idea how much they cost(in Canada) and we don't know exactly what they do. Can we tell them what kind of movies I want to be in? No horror, 18A or R movies or anything terrible like that. What do you need to get into an audition? Please tell me everything I need to know about them! If you have any recommened agents, or websites, let me know please! Thanks!

Agents have access to auditions that you do not know about. They pay money to subscribe to a service that lists auditions and roles called "Breakdowns." Producers go through agents because they agents submit people who are "right" for the role (ideally). Even if you go to an open audition, that producer has already seen people submitted by their agents, and those people are already under consideration.

Agents take 10% of what you make, but they were recently lobbying for 15%. Generally, you do not choose an agent. An agent chooses you. Most often because they saw you performing somewhere.

Wow.
You know, I hate how people think the acting biz is that simple.

You can't just get an agent.
You have to have great training and expirence in acting.
Sometimes even people with long extensive resumes can't even get an agent and it takes them years to get one.

k.

Hello,

Acting agents help you find jobs and auditions by submitting you for them.

www.breakdownservices.com
www.actorsaccess.com

They can go to these websites and submit you for work. So when you book jobs, agents takes 10% from your paycheck.

Now you can also go to those websites and submit yourself, and you can go to find agents and managers too.

Now you normally can't just get an agent, you meet with them and they choose you.

Now remember, if an agent asks you to pay money don't!!
Its illegal and some will try its since you are new.

Good luck!

Agents help you get your affairs in order if you are an actor, like myself. The Kim Dawson agency sucks but find one that is nice and affordable. Ask for an interview with them and for contacting info. for past clients to see how they liked the agency. Well I certainly hope I helped.
