Position:Home>Theater & Acting> My daughter just got "accepted" into the Pacific Modeling & Acting Aca

Question:My daughter auditioned yesterday and was called back today. But it turns out that we have to be committed to her career and spending between $2500 and $6000 for further training/development. Does anyone know whether this is legitimate or a scam?

We went to an open audition for the same company, which just so happens to have a John Robert Powers phone number. So I think that this is just another way for them to use another name but still be under the JRP franchise system. From other threads JRP doesn't have the best reputation so maybe it's like Amway.

Both of my daughters got accepted to the same school. They wanted us to schedule an appointment tonight and give them $2450 each.

We won't shell out the money for this.

This is their first look into acting for them, so we will probably just find some local acting classes to get them into and go from there.

John Robert Powers is NOT affiliated with it.
They are very upset about this and are taking action. Report It

  • it sounds like a scam to me.

I think it is partially legit, but there are no guarantees, and you are going to be spending a lot more money. sounds a lot like something my friends daughter got into, I don't know how it is working out though, last I heard she was still there, and he was sending her money.

When a student gets accepted to Harvard or any other elite school, they still have to pay the $30,000+ annual tuition. I can't tell you anything specifically about this modeling school, but I wouldn't consider it a scam just based on the fact you might have to pony up some money for tuition.

well i heard if its about modeling and they ask for money upfront its a scam you should look into it

A legitimate modeling agency will take a percentage of money you earn, decided in the contract that you sign when they decide to represent you.
You should not have to put money up in order to make money. There are many modeling schools that will teach basic modeling skills for far less than that - maybe $100 or so. $2500-$6000 is simply ridiculous. Besides which, if they are interested in your daughter, classes should be a suggestion and never a requirement.
The only money you may legitimately have to put up will be the cost of transportation to specific casting calls, or jobs. The agency may arrange for girls who are all going to the same casting call to carpool.
Please check this company with the Bureau for Better Business - if they are a scam - and I would be willing to bet that they are - someone has likely filed complaints against them.

    YES IT IS.

this is what everyone should know:
if somebody has talent, such as modeling or acting, they are the ones who should be getting paid. under no circumstances is the talented person supposed to pay a penny for them to get "discovered" or "trained" for anything.
This has happened to me, and my thousands have gone to complete waste to a growing industry that is feeding off little girl's dreams, and scamming them and their family.
seriously, dont do it. just trust me, it is a scam.
I have been in your shoes before, and made the mistake of believing such crap.

Scam. You should have to pay upfront.

Hello, my daughter just got called back as well about 20 min. ago and I, too, am very leary. What do I do????? Can you contact me as well so we can talk about it??? Thanks...

any modeling academy or agency that makes you pay up front is most likely a scam.

It's bull. Save the money for college or legitimate acting coaching.

NO WAY! I AM APAR TOF IT AND IT IS NOT A SCAM!

this PMA Academy is not an agency, it is a school. It has nothing to d o with jobs or agents. It teaches you the buisness.
