Question:I am in 7th grade and trying out for the Music Man. My teachers have told me that i am one of the top 3 actresses and singers in it but they are probably going to cast me as "Ethel Toughelmeier" because i am a little bit overweight (very little). Do you think this is an apropriate act for a middle school play director to do?

well honestly i do believe that its a little harsh but only because your only in 7th grade, however if you really love to act you should start getting used to the fact that when directors think you're right for a part (whether it be for a good or a bad reason) they are going to tell you straight up. especially if it'll enhance their performance. but it's okay dont take it personally. maybe your not fat, but that the other girls are just too skinny =)

No, not at all! Thats completely and tottaly rude! Don't feel bad about it at all!

Absolutely. All casting is done first by look and then by talent. It is so from gradeschool through professional acting. However, I do not thing it is appropriate for a director to discuss the casting (and your comparative talent ever) before it is announced. Then if you wonder why you are cast the way you are, it would be appropriate for them to tell you honestly.

She probably didn't mean it in a bad way but I don't think she should have said that. But they did say that you were one of the top 3 actesses. Do what you want regardless of what people say or do to you.
