Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Am I any good, or am I just being paranoid?

Question:I just recently auditioned for an improv group. It said on this sheet that you have to fill out before your audition, that they only call people back, who they think are really good and are considering having come back in for another audition/a callback. Well, the very next day they called me back and they told me that my characters were very strong/they liked all my characters, and they think that I am very talented. But then he said that he doens't really think I'm quite there just yet and suggested maybe taking some improv classes. Which I'm signing up for. He also told me the same thing happened to him. He auditioned for the same exact thing and the same thing happened. Do you really think they thought I was any good? I mean, they did call me back. If they didn't like me, or didn't think I was any good, don't you think they wouldn't have called at all? I took a theatre class in high, and people tell me I'm really good. I know I still have a lot to work on though in order to become

First of all, it's impossible to speculate on someone else's motivations, however I would think that he wouldn't have bothered to take the time to call you and tell you all that if he didn't think you had potential. It's also very encouraging that he said the same thing happened to him, and he's now in the group!
Have you taken improv before? Comedic improv is different from acting, so while your drama classes may help some, improv has it's own set of rules. Sign up for a class and try again next time auditions come up.

Well like you said, if they called you back atleast the saw something there.
Otherwise they wouldnt had botherd.

Dont get discouraged when you dont always get accepted.
Once i auditioned for a Tv workshop thing and i was so ashamed i didnt get in i didnt tell my parents until moths later.
Now i realise its better i didnt get in because we would had been made to sign a contract restricting us from doing any other drama groups.

Keep working an di kno whow you feel abou tthinking if your good enough, but deep down i think you can tell!

Hope i helped :)
