Question:I would really like to be an actress. My mom wants me to get a stable job instead devoting my whole life to the fine arts. Now, I do agree with her to some exent but at the same time, I would like to be in a national tour for a play. So, my question is this; even with a BFA in Thearter, could I get into a national production tour?

Getting a role in a National Tour has nothing to do with your degree. It has to do with how well you nailed it at the audition. It also has to do with your look, your height, your availability, your union status, etc. Also, a tour is a fairly steady gig. If you keep up your end of the work, you could be on that tour for years!

Yeah. Try out. Theatur is not as time consuming as people say. So use a stable job to fall back on.

if you want a stable job to fall back on, i do not recommend getting a degree in theatre - you can't use that for very much - try something like psycology... education... whatever else you are interested in that could qualify you for a stable career.

if you are passionate about theatre, take independent classes - vocal, dance, scene study - and go see a lot of plays. all that you need to get a tour job is your talented self.

I wouldnt get a degree in it. If you want to be on a national your, what you mastered in is not nearly as important as how well you did at the audition. I would, though, recommend taking classes in college that are theatre related. Just dont major in it.

Yes, if they see something they like in you.

Gina Torres, straight out of high school, got an agent and got cast in "other city" plays (e.g. Boston) from an audition she did in NYC. Now she's married to Lawurence Fishburn and doing movies, TV and stage.

All you gotta do is be seen, but you also have to be ready to travel and buy your union card and an Equity Card costs $2,400, they don't take payments, MasterCard or Visa

a degree has nothing to do with it, casting directors do not care if you went to college, they only care if you look right and can read the lines. So the answer is probably not, there are thousands of experienced actors waiting for the job.
