If you have no experience, just sign up for an intro class to see how you like it.

If you go to a conservatory-style school, they will have a curriculum in place with a sequence of classes covering various style and supplemented with instrument classes such as voice, movement, alexander technique and imrpov.

If you go to a school that just offers classes and is not a conservatory or accredited program, you generally have the option of selecting your own based on what your interests are

Try one class! If you like it, THINK about how much time and energy it will take to stay with the program!

You should start out by getting some experience by acting in plays--that is how actors learn to act. Then when you have a couple of plays under your belt, try one beginning class at a good school. Avoid The Method or Stanislavski as they are out dated. Try a Meisner class or just fundamentals

Hi Rena...there are so many different entities that combine
to make a great actor. Body work, voice, learning accents
and facial expressions. Working alone or with others is a
whole class in itself. Working with a director to get the best
out of a performance is another. Getting your feet wet in
stage, screen and video, another. Acting is a holistic
experience and should be approached as such, taking
into consideration the entire 360 of this very rewarding,
but difficult profession. You'll find out soon enough if
you have the passion necessary to proceed, so I suggest
you jump right in and submerge yourself in this fabulous
world. I did and I've never regretted it...it gave me so
many tools in life, confidence in who I was for one which
was the most valuable. Acting. New York? I'm jealous!

Hi Rita, I agree , i think you should take one acting class. before you enrol. I really wish you all the best, ( break a leg ) as they say lol.
