sing goodnight my someone or till there was you from the music man. they can really show off a good soprano voice. I would also recommend the song "taylor the latte boy" or "the girl in 14-g" by kristin chenoweth. Or maybe think of me from phantom or in my own little corner from cinderella. You can also try somewhere thats green from little shop of horrors. you can find all of these songs on youtube.

sing 'popular' from the play wicked. it is lovely and will show your range.

alecia keys

The teacher making the decisions is probably of an age to appreciate that Whitney Houston song, "I Will Always Love You," but you'll have to live up to your statement that you're good.

All Through the Night or Ave Maria. With the right person singing with the right effect, those can be mesmerizing.

popular or something from the sound of music or oklahoma (out of my dreams) The girl in it is a soprano and they are beautiful songs I am sure you could download it.

Please don't sing Popular from Wicked, Think of Me from Phantom or anything from Les Miserables or Rent every other girl between 12 and 16 sings those songs and as a director it gets very tiring to listen to them plus you won't stand out you'll be the 19th girl that sang Popular, you want people to remember you and aside from your talents a good way to stand out is to sing a great song that is not the overly used choice for an audition.

Try something that shows off your voice "I enjoy being a girl" from Flower drum song, "I could have danced all night" from My Fair Lady, "He plays the violin" from 1776, "the boy next door" from meet me in St Louis and "If I were a bell" from guys and dolls and "What i did for Love" from A chorus Line are all great choices for sopranos and actors and all have brought me success as an actor.

I second Summer's comments but I'd like to add that that you did not mention that aside from being a soprano, what role are you auditioning for? A musical theatre actor generally has several songs in their repertoire wel in advance so that when an audition comes up they can focus on polishing the one that best suits the role they are auditioning for. It may not matter so much if you are just hoping to get in. In that case, just choose a song that shows of your range and quality of your voice to the best of your ability. Generally you need to stay away from songs that are overdone such as those from shows currently on Broadway or on tour (Anything from Wicked, Hairspray, etc.) Sing them with your friends, but not for the poor director.

I would recommend these but you should always know the show from which you are singing and the character and your place in the story at that moment, etc.

Green Finch and Linnet Bird – Sweeney Todd
How Lovely To Be A Woman – Bye Bye Birdie
Lonely Goatherd – Sound of Music
Not For The Life of Me – Thoroughly Modern Millie
Somewhere That's Green - Little Shop of Horrors
That’ll Show Him – A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum
Vanilla Ice Cream - She Loves Me
Waiting For Life – Once On This Island
Astonishing – Little Women
I’m Not Afraid of Anything – Songs for a New World
I’m Not At All In Love – Pajama Game (mezzo)
In My Own Little Corner – Cinderella
A Change In Me – Beauty and the Beast (the end)
Home - Beauty and the Beast
A New Life – Jekyll & Hyde
Anything But Lonely – Aspects of Love (mezzo)
God Help The Outcasts – Hunchback of Notre Dame
How Could I Ever Know – Secret Garden
I Still Believe – Miss Saigon (belt mix)
Ribbons Down My Back – Hello Dolly
Someone Like You – Jekyll & Hyde

My advice is to get to know the show and the role you want as best you can. Choose a song that shows off your voice and hopefully shows pieces of the character that you hope to get as well. Ideally you'd already be familiar with the song but if not, maybe you're a quick study :-) Check the audition requirements to see iof you get 16 or 32 bars and have your voice teacher mark your music if you're not sure how.

good luck,
Marianne

if your quiet do something a bit meek but stands out. like defying gravity from wicked! it shows that your strong and brave! lol and shows all the notes you can hit!
