Question:Act II is basically what might be called a happy act, " full of loving and courtship, teasing and humor, But good dramatist that he is Shakespeare reminds us in various places of the threatening background. This means he is using foreshadowing- providing clues that alert us to what is going to happen later. Point out the lines in this act in which Shakespeare fore-shadows the fact that there could be trouble ahead.

If you remember can you point out the lines? or scenes? I would be very happy if you do :]

Tyler, there is only one such reference I can think of. During the balcony scene, Romeo explains that love is what gave him the power to get over the wall into Juliet's garden and that love makes it impossible for her kinsmen to stop him. She mentions that her cousins would kill him if they found him there:
Jul: I would not for the world they saw thee here.
Rom: I have night's cloak to hide me from their eyes. And but thou love me, let them find me here: my life were better ended by their hate, then death prorogued (delayed), wanting of thy love.

What that means to me is that Romeo will seclude himself in the darkness to keep from being seen. He says it would be better to die because of their hatred for him than to have death delayed and not have her love. This foreshadows the fact that they will all die because of the feud, based in hatred.

That is all I can remember from the story, but it has been a while since I read it. You can find other references if you look closely in the text. Good luck on this assignment. Rob R
