Experimental Theater?

Question:I am an aspiring Stage Manager looking to transfer to a different college. I am currently in Wisconsin and am looking to go to more of a "theater area". I am very passionate and interested in avant garde/experimental theater...are there any towns that are known for their experimental theaters?
or any schools that have a strong program in the "not-so-normal" theater arts?

UCLA, Stanford, NYU, Even Colorado University at Boulder has a good theater department.
