i disagree with mr doctor - i question his advice:as a professional actor what I have learned is create the character with info you are given : age, interests, etc. then adapt/make this person up and makhe or she talk, walk, and act like you believe that person would. Now do not overdo or make all the attention to you in the chorus - but to just make it your own and show professionalism. It will come to you - I did a workshop show where all my character did was be apart of this posse and and follow people around...i was one of the only ones who had great reviews and the show date was extended because people wanted to see me....which was weird!!! Just have fun.......

You are not supposed to stick out in a chorus, the chorus is supposed to act as one. Just do the best job you can. OK? Stage presence comes from energy.

Okay,Hon,take it from a pro. You're in the chorus, that means, you're part of a group. No one likes a stage hog and if you try to hard to distance you self from the rest of the chorus by mugging, blowing up business or any of that, they'll resent you. Besides,it's very poor stage etiquette. Wait your turn, because if you're any good,it'll come. I didn't "go after" the understudy position in a show I did once, it just happened(probably because of my resemblance to one of the leads, becuase he was a spectacular showman) I watched him when I wasn't "on" to see what he did and,one matinee,I had to go on in the part.No rehersal,no notice until half hour.I had been in the chorus the whole time and knew most of it but,you know what?My fellow gypsies all but carried me through the performance and frankly,I couldn't have done it without them

we have a girl that sticks out in our choir and let me tell you SHE DOES STICK OUT in a BAD WAY sticking out is BAD, making a PRESENSE is good. If your a good singer then sing loud but not to loud. getting into the piece helps. just move a little if its fun song

y stick out?!!!
hush

You're not supose to stick out in a chorus. there isn't that i hate more than sefl centered people who are more intrested in making themselves known than the integrity of the preformance.

true don't stick out but keep in character of the play create a name for yourself and become part of the general play theme/good luck

If you're in the chorus, you're not suposed to stick out.

It's also very possible to have a good stage presence without lines or songs. Even when you're the lead, you have to keep acting when you're not talking -- it's not like the lead suddenly switches on his character when he's talking, but then when he's not talking, he stops acting and goes back to being Regular Old Self Guy. Acting isn't all about the lines.

Acting is also RE-acting. REACT to what's happening in the story while you're on stage -- if something shocking is happening, look shocked. If something disgusting is happening, be disgusted. Just don't go over-the-top with it and gasp dramatically and point wildly or anything, just...be in the moment of what's happening and react to it rather than just standing there.

Throw yourself entirely into your acting, singing, dancing, and if you really love what you're doing, then you will have a dynamic impact on stage even if you're just in the chorus. People will see that you are passionate about what you're doing and you'll be noticed even if you are in the very back of the group because of the energy you're emitting on stage.
