I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. I saw the Lion King several years ago when it was still at the New Amsterdam theater and the ushers were lovely. I saw it again with friends once it had moved to the Minskoff and the ushers there too were quite helpful.

Maybe you just caught them on an off night? Or possibly someone was causing trouble that you couldn't see or hear. You have to remember... ushers are overworked and under paid... especially in the mezzanine. Some of them handle whole sections all buy themselves, that's a lot of people for one usher. Can they get annoying or be cranky sometime? Absolutely. I've run into some who are plain rude and others who feel it necessary to talk through the whole production. When it comes down to it, they're just human. Most are good or even great but there will always be the occasional thorn on the rose.

So my advice? Take this as a new experience and enjoy the nice ushers you meet that much more. And next time if they bother you then complain. They have managers just like every other job and they take feedback. They want you to have a nice night at the theater just as much as you do.

Did you at least enjoy the show?

I imagine that they aren't going to have the same ushers everywhere the Lion King performs. I think you probably just had a bad group of them. I loved "The Lion King." I"m sorry your experience was so bad.
