The movies are full of melodrama. Think of any thriller with a villain (bad) and a hero (good) in conflict, where the hero succeeds. This is classic melodrama. Alfred Hitchcock was a master.

There's very little around that isn't melodrama. Even things that weren't written with "melodrama" in mind are usually performed as if they were.

Melodramas are great for audience participation. You cheer the hero, boo the villian, and go "ahh" when the hero and heroine are together.
