Acting, natural talent or hard work?

Talent is highly overrated.

There's obviously a certain amount of personal charisma, but mostly it's damn hard work.

I rented a movie a while back that was Robert DeNiro's first movie, and he was TERRIBLE!!!
I mean, like a high school play bad!
I've seen some other early performances of actors who are now considered the greatest, so obviously, they weren't born with it.

You have to be born with the talent, and you have to work hard to learn to use it well.

Any ability can be improved by working at it. Natural talent in acting might be good for getting a foot in the door, but it won't get you parts if you aren't willing to learn how to act well.

well its kinda a mixture of both you need to know how to pretend and if you cant pretend or (lie) you could take acting classes i like to act because i like to be someone im not and still turn back no matter what right now im in a play and im the mean spoiled king and get to interupt people and i dont do anything like that in real life so either that or you are out of luck

It is a balance of both, you may be born with some natural talent, but there will always be some training involved.

I personally think that it is both. Some people can just NOT act. So being born with the courage and the ambition to get up at an audition and try out is needed first of all, but you also need to know how to become the character and be open to the fact that some people may think that your a little weird.

Talent is a god-given gift.You can't learn it.If it ain't there to start with,it ain't.But,the good news is that if you're any good at all,rehersal,practice and dedication will take you far.

I believe acting is a like swimming- anyone can do it. It's more about shedding your inhibition. However, people who have talent don't have to struggle in the beginning and people who are not born actors can learn gradually but once they lose their inhibition, they can be very good actors
