Position:Home>Theater & Acting> What is new or good on broadway or off broadway?

Question:I'm taking the wife into the city on Saturday february 3rd to see a show. We have seen lion king, avenue Q, les mis., and Hairspray. Anyone got any ideas? I was thinking Wicked but I'm up for anything. Is there a hidden gem out there?
Musical, play, funny, hip, not too sad. Anything come to mind. I don't mind off broadway either as long as its good

This is right up my alley! Okay:

-A Chorus Line: A classic, everyone should see it eventually. It has a lot of monologues though and some people find that boring. Sad in some parts, but generally pretty uplifting.
-Chicago: Hilarious and witty. I know some people who really hated this show, but I think it's so cool. I don't like the constant stunt casting in this show though.
-Curtains: Your stereotypical Broadway show. My friend says it seems like Clue the Musical. It's a murder mystery complete with the big flashy numbers and sparkly costumes, etc. The kind of show you'd expect on Broadway. Fantastic cast.
-Forbidden Broadway, Rude Awakening: This is off-Broadway, and it basically lovingly mocks all of the current Broadway shows. So if you consider yourself enough of a "theatre buff" to get the jokes, it's absolutely hilarious.
-Grease: Come on, who doesn't love Grease?
-Jersey Boys: Phenomenal voices. It's about the musical group the 4 Seasons and their lives. I know, at first it sounds kind of...I don't know. That's what I thought too. But people love it! It's a fantastic show with great music, and a wonderful cast.
-Legally Blonde the Musical: If you can handle some girly moments, this show is adorable. I really loved it. Laura Bell Bundy is great in this role and the rest of the cast follows suit. Nice for a light relaxing evening. It's not going to change your life, but you'll remember it as a fun night out.
-Mamma Mia!: This was my first Broadway show... so much fun!!! It's all ABBA music, with fun flashy dance numbers and it literally makes you want to jump up and dance around your seat. Such a feel-good show!
-Mary Poppins: Very cool effects, great principles - and Mary Poppins flies during the show! I underestimated it quite a bit. And really, doesn't Mary Poppins make everyone happy?
-Next To Normal: Another off-Broadway show. I don't know a whole lot about this one, but I can tell you this much: When it was still in development it was called Feeling Electric, the title song (which may or may not have been cut since then) is full of energy, and the cast is amazing. I personally really want to see this one.
-Rent: My favorite. It's closing in June, so go see it while you still have the chance! It's a legendary Broadway staple, and with good reason. The music is so uplifting and you'll leave the theatre totally inspired. It's raw and honest, and makes you appreciate what you have. And the theatre is small and cozy, and it makes you feel like you're right there with the characters.
-Monty Python's Spamalot: If you like Monty Python, go see it. If you're not familiar with Monty Python, you'll probably be pretty confused. Clay Aiken is currently in it, and if you like him now would be a good time to see him in person! I've been told it's kind of random, but some people love that kind of humor!
-Spring Awakening: Not very light and pretty sad, but it can also be uplifting at times. It's about teenagers in the 1800s trying to grow up when none of the adults around them are connecting with them. Sad, but so so good. It won 7 Tony Awards in 2007 - and a pretty large amount of the original cast is there, so it would be great just for that reason! It can be raunchy at times, but if you have the right humor or thought process for it it's hilarious and inspiring.
-Sunday in the Park with George: Another one of those classics. It's a Sondheim show, so how can you go wrong? I also happen to personally know people connected to the show, so of course I'm gonna say go to this one!
-The Color Purple: It's closing on February 24, so if you want to see it now's your chance! Based on the book, amazing voices.
-The Fantasticks: Off-Broadway, also closing on Feb 24th. It's the longest- running musical in the world - no kidding!
-The Little Mermaid- I'm not sure how I feel about this one. I haven't seen it for myself, and I can't really give an opinion on it until I have, because I'm just too skeptical about how it turned out. I just know that Sherie Rene Scott plays Ursula in it, and she is an extremely talented actress. A happy show, to say the least!
-Xanadu: Based on the movie. The worst movie, ever made. Why did they make a Broadway show out of it? I have no idea. But it's making money, so it must have entertainment value. And Kerry Butler is in it, who is a phenomenal actress.
-Young Frankenstein: I don't really like the idea of this one, but everybody else seems to. Why not, it's a fun show, and the cast amazing!
-Wicked: You positively cannot go wrong with Wicked. That's all I can say about that. See it for yourself.
-Phantom of the Opera: Well we all know what Phantom is about. Another one of those that you just have to see at one time or another.
-Stomp: SO cool. Some people get bored though. But if you're a percussionist, or really have ever studied music at all, this is for you.
-I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change: I haven't seen this show, and I've only heard a few songs from it, but it's been running since 1996 so it must be good! It's an off-Broadway show about marriage.

Okay, I just got wayyyy too into detail. But hey, now you know what you have to choose from! There were a few I left out, and I didn't really list any straight plays - sorry if you wanted those. But anyway, enjoy your time in the city!

Wicked it Wonder full Mama mia is good if you like Abba and singing with srtangers

Rent is in it's final season. Last show is June 1st. Also, I have heard Xanadu is good. You can always check on the Lincoln Center website, as well as http://www.playwrightshorizons.com/index... and http://www.atlantictheater.org
All of these are known to have consistently good shows, but then they are famous for that and the actor training programs they have.

that's good

Spamalot is very funny...but non Monty Pythons fans may not like it. Wicked is excellent....really cool effects and everything. Can't go wrong either way.

Jesrsey Boys is great. It's a musical about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons
